Summer Plans Needed? Here Are a Few Ideas for You and Your Family

Introduction

Summer is on the way and that means options for family fun. I know what you’re thinking, “We’ve been stuck at home together for three months. We don’t need any more quality time!” But as great as it is to have a break from the daily commute and after-school activities, this summer will be different. Now more than ever, we need some fresh air and new experiences. I’ll share with you my favorite summer activities from years past but first, the best thing about summer vacation: no homework!

Summer Plans Needed? Here Are a Few Ideas for You and Your Family: A blog about some fun things that you can do with your family during the Summer.

Summer is a great time to get out and do things with your family. Here are some things you can do:

  • Go swimming
  • Have a picnic
  • Play board games
  • Go on a hike or nature walk

Water parks

  • Water slides: These are great in the summer because they cool you down and provide a fun way to get wet. Kids love them, too!
  • Slip and slides: This is another great option for cooling off. Kids will have fun playing on these, especially if they’re in a more rural area where there isn’t much else around to do during the summer months.
  • Water guns: If you want something more active than just sitting by the poolside, try bringing some balloons or water guns along with your family. It can be really fun!
  • Water balloons: Another way of having some outdoor fun is by playing with water balloons! This can be done at home or out on a field somewhere near where you live (or even further away if it makes sense for what kind of vehicle accesses it).

Outdoor hikes and walks

If you’re looking for outdoor activities that don’t require too much money, then hiking and walking are great options.

The best part of hiking is the exercise, but there are other benefits as well. Hiking can help people develop a better connection with nature and can also be a great way to bond with family members or friends while enjoying the outdoors.

Local museums or historical sites

Local museums and historical sites are great for learning about the history of a city or town. Some museums are free, while others have low admission fees. Museums can be a fun way to spend time with your family as well as learn something new. The best part is that many museums offer fun activities for kids!

Splurge at an amusement park

One of the best ways to get out of the house while spending time and having fun with your family is by visiting an amusement park. Amusement parks come in many different forms, so there’s something for everyone in your family—young and old alike. You’ll need to decide what kind of amusement park suits you best—there are waterparks, theme parks and more!

If you’re thinking about visiting an amusement park this summer, but don’t want to spend a lot of money on tickets, consider visiting on weekdays instead of weekends or buying a season pass for the entire year instead.

Create a local scavenger hunt

You can create a local scavenger hunt. This is a treasure hunt, but with things you can find in your local area. You can make it fun and challenging by making the clues more difficult as they get closer to the treasure. For example, if you are searching for something that is hidden under water, you could give clues like:

“The clue is at the end of Main Street.”

“The clue is at a park.”

You should make sure everyone has fun with this activity and it must be safe for your children to do on their own if necessary.

Go to an outdoor concert, festival, or street fair in your town

One of the best ways to enjoy summer is by spending quality time with your family, friends, and community. Many times it’s hard to find the right opportunities for everyone in your life to meet up without feeling like you are taking them away from something they would rather be doing or they are leaving something they want to attend.

There are plenty of ways that you can all get together this summer without having too much overlap in schedules:

  • Go on a picnic – Pack up some food and drinks and enjoy them outside!
  • Go swimming at an indoor pool – Swimming pools are great places for kids to play around while grownups chat about their day-to-day lives.
  • Go hiking – Hiking is good exercise that allows people time alone with nature but also time spent chatting about what’s going on in each person’s lives at different levels of depth depending on how far along the trail they walk.

Fly kites, make bubbles, have a picnic and let your kids just be kids while they’re on summer break

  • Go to an outdoor concert, festival, or street fair in your town.
  • Create a local scavenger hunt that takes you all around the neighborhood looking for fun things to do together as a family.
  • Go camping in a nearby state park, much like the Alum Creek campground (as shown above) where there are plenty of opportunities for hiking and enjoying nature with your kids—and maybe even a few new friends too!

Start a garden together or have a raised bed with seasonal vegetables, herbs of fruit.

Growing vegetables and fruits is a great way to spend time with your family, especially if you don’t want to go on a vacation or some other fun activity. It’s also very rewarding because you will be able to eat your own produce!

There are many types of gardens which you can plant: vegetable gardens, herb gardens and fruit trees. Vegetable gardens are most common in North America but it is also easy to grow herbs or fruit trees in pots or on balconies. There is so much variety when it comes too different types of plants! You just have to choose which ones will work best for where you live based on factors such as light levels, length of growing season and soil conditions (for example whether there is enough moisture).

Go camping in a nearby state park, much like the Alum Creek campground. It can be a cabin or tent. Build a fire and roast marshmallows. Let the kids catch fireflies at night. Take them fishing too. Camping is a great way to reconnect as a family unit and get away from daily stressors. Plus it is cheap!

You can also camp in a nearby state park. In Ohio, there are many great parks to choose from: Alum Creek, Hocking Hills and Cuyahoga Valley National Park just to name a few. These parks have cabins or tent sites available for rent. You can even make reservations online before you arrive if you plan ahead of time! The kids will love finding fireflies at night or catching fish in the lake during the day! Camping is a great way to reconnect as a family unit and get away from daily stressors. Plus it is cheap!

In addition to camping with your family, consider going on an adventure together! There are many fun things that you can do with your family during the summer months such as swimming at a local pool/lake/beach etc., going mini golfing, taking them roller skating or ice skating; all of these ideas would be entertaining while still being affordable too!

Conclusion

You can have a lot of fun with your family, and summer is the best time to do it! There are so many great things to do during this time of year, and all you need is good weather. But what about when it rains? Well then, just stay inside! You can still have fun indoors with board games or movies on Netflix.
