Learn about the benefits of seed coatings.

Seed coatings, like those found on our seeds and many others, can be used to help reduce germination time. Germination is the process of a seed sprouting into a plant. Water is often essential for germination to occur. When properly stored and kept in optimal conditions, seed coatings can help ensure you get an early start on your growing season!

In addition to ensuring your seeds make it through this crucial first step in their journey as living things, seed coatings also offer protection from disease, insects and weeds. Soil-borne pathogens like fungi or bacteria often find their way onto unprotected seeds and prevent them from germinating or growing into plants altogether—and if they do manage to take root in your soil before being identified as unwelcome guests by your immune system (in the variety we refer to as “human”), there’s nothing stopping them from killing off all the plants you’ve worked so hard to sow now that they’ve taken hold inside one of them!

But thanks again for buying our brand!”

Take a look at our recent blog series.

We’ve compiled a series of blogs that showcase our own seed farm, as well as some of the projects we’re working on.

  • *What is it like to build a seed farm?*

This first blog talks about how we got started and some of the challenges we faced in doing so.

Strategies to Prevent Disease in your Fall Crops

Seed treatment is a process used to protect seeds from disease and pest infestations for the first few weeks of life. Seed treatment options are numerous and can be purchased at a number of retailers, but each method has its pros and cons.

The use of seed treatments has become increasingly popular with vegetable growers over the last ten years as they have become more aware of its benefits. These benefits include: reduction in disease incidence, increased germination rates, improved vigor and yield potential, decreased seedling mortality rates due to root rot caused by Pythium spp., Helminthosporium spp., Rhizoctonia solani (causing damping off), Fusarium oxysporum f.sp tracheiphilum (responsible for verticillium wilt).

Improving Emergence Rates with Seed Coatings

Seed coatings have been shown to effectively improve seed-to-seedling emergence and prevent disease, helping you get your crops off to a good start. Coatings can also help protect seeds from insects and rodents, as well as moisture, heat and other damaging conditions.
