The First Congregational Church in Elmhurst is excited to announce its 11th annual Green Garden Fair, taking place from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 10. For those not familiar with the church, it is located at the southeast corner of Church and Kenilworth Avenue, 235 S. Kenilworth Ave. For those who have pre-ordered their organic seedlings, the church has a special surprise in store. They will be available for pickup at the garden fair, providing you with a convenient and enjoyable experience. But don’t worry if you haven’t pre-ordered yet. The church has plenty of additional plants for sale, so you can still visit and pick up the perfect gift for your Mom. Vegetable and herb seedlings, grown locally and certified organic, will be available, provided by Baas Greenhouses in Mokena, Illinois. Another great option is the annual flower seedlings, grown by We Grow Dreams Greenhouse and Garden Center. While not certified organic, these flowers provide a wonderful source of support for the community, with profits going towards the mission of We Grow Dreams to provide job training and employment for the developmentally disabled. Exhibitors will be abound at the fair. You can bring your gardening tools, scissors, and knives and let Custom Edge Sharpening take care of them. But that’s not all – there are many other local and sustainable options available for sale at the fair. For example, Prairie Wind Native Plants will be offering seedlings of native plants, suitable for your home garden. Purchase local raw honey from City Bee Savers or a beautiful stepping stone for your garden from Jan. You’ll also find unique products made by repurposing items that might otherwise be thrown away. Several eco-friendly organizations will be sharing their mission with you. Look out for University of Illinois Master Gardeners, Elmhurst Garden Club, Citizen’s Climate Lobby, Climate Reality Project, DuPage Monarch Project, and The Sierra Club. But this is not all – New this year, the Illinois Bat Conservation Program will also be present. This event will be a great opportunity to learn how to live more sustainably. You’ll be able to discover how to garden more economically, reduce waste, and live a more healthy lifestyle. And, of course, you’ll be able to pick up some wonderful plants for your garden.
